We returned from China on November 9th and have been settling in. Emma is
AMAZING! From the second we saw her being escorted off the elevator at the
Lake View Hotel in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, we knew she was meant for us
and us for her. She is an absolute delight and we've been loving every second
of her presence in our lives. With each day there is something new. At 21
months, she is doing incredibly well. She's had her first US doctor visit
and is quite healthy. She is learning new words every day and has retained
some of her Chinese "baby talk" that we've begun to understand and use along
with her. For example, whenever she drops something she says (phonetically),
"gee-o". We think this may be "tiao", which is Mandarin for drop. She uses
"shoo" when she want's water (shui in Mandarin), uses "ba" when she wants up
on something (Mandarin for up), and calls all little children, "mai-mai"
(little sister in Mandarin.) Her English vocabulary now includes: book,
boat, Emma, mama, da, dado or daddy, good girl, please (which comes out
something like pla-la-lease) oh-oh, more, all gone, hong (hungry), do-do and
tee-tee, the necessary words, bumpus (for diaper - figure that one out!),
faa-faa (for hot), nite-nite, nose, eye, boo-belly (an attempt at Buddha-belly),
shish (for fish), Shushi (for our friends dog, Suki), out (for get me outta
this high-chair - NOW), and of course, no.
